Down Durgapur discharge is reduced at 80,000 from 88,000 Cusec of 11.00 p.m last night. The reverine distance from Durgapur to Pursurah Block situated in the bank of the river Damodar is 115 k.m approximately. So, last niight discharge of 88,000 Cusec will hit Pursurah with its full load by 4 p.m today. The downstream of Damodar touches the Primary Danger level at 11.00 a.m today. High alert is necessary at least up to 11.00 p.m tonight.
A ray of hope is also in the air. Combined discharge from Maithon & Panchet under the control of DVC has been 62000 Cusec as before. Another contributor to Panchet reserviour is Tenughat which is not under the unified control of DVC has closed its one gate. One more gate is likely to be closed shortly.
Besides, the actual rainfall in the Damodar cathchment area was 11-25ml instead of 26-50ml as predicted in the last 24 hours.
Arambagh sub-divisional administration has kept 04 speed boats in each block of Arambagh, Pursurah, Khanakul - I & II. If further disaster does not happen, the situation may be improved from midnight.
