12 Villages namely Sasapota, Hanua, Dhaldanga, Sundarpur, Banhijli, Ramchandrapur, Nandanpur, Jagatpur, Bar-nandanpur, Ghoradaha, Radhakrishnapur, Kamdebchak of 4 Gram Panchayats namely Jagatpur, Marokhana, Dhanyaghori and Rajhati-I under Khanakul-II Development Block have been inundated due to heavy water spilling from Ghoradaha Canal of Mundeshwari river as well as from the water of Rupnarayan and Silabati River.
In the morning today water is flowing over 3 KM of main road at Marokhana near Pansiuli and 1 KM main road at Nandanpur near Garer Ghat. Agricultural land has been inundated and the houses, being constructed at a higher level are yet to be affected. The villagers are using boats either to go to market places or to the bus stand. Some 250 tarpolines have been sent by the Block Development Officer of Khanakul-II to Jagatpur GP morning today in presence the Sub-divisional Magistrate Arindam Niyogi by boat as the GP Office is no more accessible by road. There is a vulnerable point at a sluice gate at Hanoa Gabtala where water is flowing at great speed. If the place is breached, large area will be detached and inundated and the Block Office will be inundated too.
If water level rises rescue operation will have to be started and Flood shelters will become operative. Block Medical Officer of Health has been instructed to send mobile medical team in the affected villages.
